How Podkite Counts Podcast Download Numbers
The way Podkite counts a download is pretty straightforward:
- It’s an HTTP GET request
- The IP Address is not on the blacklist
- The User Agent is not on the blacklist
- It can’t be a streaming request for the first 2 bytes (i.e. Range: bytes=0-1) – with a tiny exception of some Safari browsers
- The User Agent/IP combination counts once per day (i.e. fixed 24 hour period starting at midnight UTC)
Even though we do not use their pipeline, we do follow the Open Downloads specification which can be found here.
